Growing up in a rural village, Fenagh Co. Leitrim, I learned a lot about living with family and community and the benefits and challenges of that life. I moved to Dublin where I studied and worked for nearly 20 years in schools and various community & family projects. My roles included Youth Work, Community Development Work, Teacher, School Chaplain (Lay) and Therapist. I've come to understand that no matter whether you live in a rural village or a suburban/city area, there's very little that separates us from one another and most of our challenges in life can be if not resolved at least managed in a more healthy way. Even better, you don't need a degree in 'Rocket Science'!
I returned to the Northwest in 2010 in private practice providing counselling & promoting mental well-being.
I work in Sligo town and Kilglass near Enniscrone where my approach is common sensical and effective with a focus to help you get to where you want to be at whatever pace feels comfortable to you. I use a Pluralistic approach which involves working with models below in a collaborative way with the client.
Pluralistic Counselling, C.B.T. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person Centered Counselling, Choice Theory/Reality Therapy, Mindfulness, Family Systems Therapy, Motivational Interviewing
"My belief is that you have the ability to sort out whatever problems / difficulties in your life. Whilst we have family and friends to rely on, sometimes we are uncomfortable seeking help from these relationships. Experienced and trained people like myself can help by listening, supporting and most importantly without judging."
M.I.A.C.P, W.G.I.I., M.A. Counselling Psychotherapy, Cert Family Systems Therapy,
H. Dip. Community & Youth Work, B.A. Theol
