As much as it may feel painful and sometimes overwhelming, grieving is a normal way of allowing ourselves to come to terms with a loss. Everyone has their own way of doing this. Some may be in the floods of tears reaching for the boxes of tissues every 5 minutes curling into a heap on a couch unable to do anything but the basic functions, whereas others may carry on with their daily chores/responsibilities without anyone noticing.
What's important is that at some stage it is important for the process of grieving to happen and to be compassionate to yourself to 'allow' it to happen. Being human we are in a constant changing world which we manage to adapt to most of the time. However, every once in a while we are thrown a 'curve-ball' where we encounter a change that causes us to stop in our tracks.
It's important to note here that it's not just a loss of someone through death where we encounter grief. It may be the ending of a relationship with a loved one, leaving family and friends behind due to emigration etc.
Then again, it's not just about people that we go through this painfull process. It could be the loss of a childhood teddy bear that you had for years, a wedding ring in the beach, a physical ability like loosing your sight or even the loss of a job.
Whatever we lose, we will feel the loss of it at varying degrees depending on how valuable it was in our lives
"The price we pay for loving is enduring the loss of that person or thing eventually"
